The official exchange rate of the Central Bank is a reference value that is used in accounting, customs payments and tax calculations. The real price of a transaction is formed at the counters: banks independently set buying and selling quotes, guided by the official benchmark, their own currency position and customer demand. Therefore, the dollar exchange rate in Uzbekistan always differs slightly in different institutions.

There are several key factors. The US Federal Reserve's policy determines the strength of the dollar on the global market. Within the country, the exchange rate depends on the balance of supply and demand for currency: volumes of export revenues, money transfers from labor migrants, and importers' needs. Additionally, international reserves, a significant portion of which consists of gold, affect the som's stability, so global precious metal prices also play a role.
