The Kashkadarya region is preparing projects to modernize roads and water supply systems. In cooperation with the Asian Development Bank, reconstruction of 100 km of highway A-380 worth $350 million will begin. This was reported by the presidential press service. The issues were discussed on October 22 at a meeting chaired by Shavkat Mirziyoyev, dedicated to the socio-economic development of the region.

Road Infrastructure

In addition to the A-380 highway reconstruction, a bypass road in Karshi will be extended by 5.5 km and connected to this highway. The technical and economic feasibility study of the project must be completed by the end of the year, and construction work is scheduled to begin in January.

Two overpasses with a total cost of 250 billion soums will be built at railway crossings on the Karshi-Pomyk and Guzar-Beineu highways. This is necessary to address congestion caused by train traffic.

Water Supply

The total budget for water supply is estimated at $360 million. Key parameters:

  • within two months, construction of 747 km of water and sewage networks and 43 facilities must be completed; 1 trillion soums was allocated for these purposes this year, and upon completion 200,000 people will gain access to clean drinking water;
  • 100 billion soums was allocated for the water pipeline network from Gissarak Reservoir to Karshi, Kamashin, Guzar, and Karshi districts, with an additional $210 million planned to be attracted; this will improve water supply for 350,000 residents;
  • the reconstruction of the Talimarjan-Mubarek water supply system is designed for 700,000 residents of Nishan, Kasbin, Mirishkor, Mubarek, and Karshi districts; the technical and economic feasibility study is planned to be prepared by April 1, with $150 million to be attracted for project implementation.

Market Implications

The projects involve a combination of budget funds and external financing, including from international development banks. For investors, this indicates the scale and timeline of infrastructure programs in the region.
