What is UNUS SED LEO?
UNUS SED LEO (LEO) is a utility token of a major cryptocurrency exchange ecosystem, launched in 2019 to replenish liquidity following a freeze of some platform funds. The name references the Latin proverb "one, but a lion."
How it works
Token holders receive discounts on trading commissions and other privileges within the ecosystem. A key element of the model is regular buybacks: the issuer directs a portion of monthly revenue to purchasing LEO from the market and burning it, gradually reducing the token supply.
Pros and cons
- Pros: deflationary model with constant buybacks, practical utility for active traders, relative price stability.
- Cons: complete dependence on the issuer's financial health and reputation, limited use outside the ecosystem, regulatory risks of exchange tokens.
