What is BNB?
BNB is the native coin of the BNB Chain blockchain, one of the largest smart contract networks. Initially created to provide discounts on fees within a crypto exchange ecosystem, it has evolved into the foundation of an independent blockchain platform.
How it works
The network operates on a Proof-of-Staked-Authority mechanism: a limited set of validators confirms blocks, ensuring high speed and low fees. BNB is used for transaction payments, staking, and participation in decentralized applications. Coins are regularly burned, reducing total supply.
Advantages and disadvantages
- Advantages: low fees, developed DeFi and gaming ecosystem, deflationary model through token burning.
- Disadvantages: higher centralization compared to major public networks, dependence on the associated ecosystem, regulatory risks.
