The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has opened correspondent accounts in som and foreign currency for the Austrian group Raiffeisen Bank International AG (RBI). The regulator announced this in its Telegram channel. For investors, this is linked to the possibility of expanding non-resident participation in the secondary market for government securities.
What the regulator says
The press office of the CB called the opening of accounts another important step in developing the country's financial market and its integration into the international financial system.
According to the regulator's assessment, the presence of an account at a foreign bank will help activate investor participation in the secondary market for government bonds. Growth in trading volumes should contribute to the formation of a market yield curve.
It is also expected that the influx of foreign capital will expand long-term financial resources in the economy, and increased market liquidity will strengthen the Central Bank's policy.
