A credit bureau serves as a common information database: banks submit data on issued loans and borrowers' payment discipline, and gain access to information accumulated by other creditors.

The economic purpose of the system is to reduce information asymmetry. Without a common database, a creditor cannot see the borrower's total debt burden and must factor this uncertainty into rates for everyone. Having reliable credit history allows for more differentiated terms and reduces borrowing costs for disciplined clients.

Access to information is restricted: it is provided to creditors when a borrower applies for a loan and to the credit history subject regarding their own data.

Uzbekistan operates a credit information exchange system that includes a credit bureau and a state credit information registry at the Central Bank. The procedure for obtaining one's own credit history and the list of available channels are established by legislation, and the current procedure should be clarified at the time of application.
