A shareholder is any individual or legal entity that has purchased at least one share of the company. The scope of rights depends on the number and type of shares: the larger the stake, the greater the influence on general assembly decisions.

A shareholder's basic rights include receiving dividends, participating in voting, accessing company documents, and receiving a portion of assets upon liquidation. Additional rights emerge upon accumulating a certain share—for example, the right to demand an extraordinary meeting or nominate candidates to the board of directors.

Shareholder rights in Uzbekistan are regulated by the Law "On Joint-Stock Companies and Protection of Shareholder Rights." Rights are confirmed by an entry in a depository account rather than a physical document. A minority shareholder holds a small stake that does not allow influence over management; a majority shareholder owns a controlling or blocking stake.
